301/302 is an austenitic stainless steel containing higher amount of Carbon and lower Nickel contents than 304 and 304L. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment but can be strengthened through cold deformation in which its austenitic structure rapidly transforms into ferromagnetic alpha ferrite. It has similar corrosion resistance to 304/304L, although this can decrease with cold working.
