1.4441 implant grade stainless steel is an ESR remelt grade, similar to ASTM F138 316LVM and is the main go-to stainless steel for medical applications. It is delta ferrite free and can be cold worked to high strengths (up to 1400MPa) without forming ferromagnetc alpha ferrite. It is well suited to a wide range of medical applications especially in the field of bone surgery. Machinability is fair, and best carried out in the cold worked condition.
