440A is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel with a lower Carbon content than 440B or 440C giving it slightly higher corrosion resistance than the later two. The addition of Molybdenum and a higher Carbon content provide this steel with good hardenability up to 56HRC where it exhibits good wear resistance making it widely used in production of bearings, nozzles, valve components and blade items.
