Titanium Alloy 6Al-7Nb is a vacuum-arc-melted and remelted alloy used extensively in the medical, surgical and dental industries for implants, joint replacements and prostheses. It is chemically similar to Titanium Grade 5 ELI, except that the Niobum (Nb) replaces Vanadium as one of the main alloying elements. The use of Vanadium makes 6Al-7Nb totally biocompatible and allergy-free and exhibits better corrosion resistance than that of 6Al-4V ELI.
Like 6Al-4V ELI, the contents of the interstitial elements Carbon, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Hydrogen are closely controlled and kept low. This close control improves the impact resistance, toughness, deformation capability and machinability.
Applications
Spinal devices
Screws and wires
Fracture fixtion plates
Total joint replacements
